The "Plaza de España"

Venue Overview

The "Plaza de España" of Seville is one of the most famous and spectacular places of regional architecture. The square is the masterpiece of Aníbal González and the most important example of the Ibero-American Exhibition held in Seville in 1929.

This world-renowned course consists of a semicircular pond with a spectacular fountain in the center, two twin towers and benches that represent the 48 Spanish provinces by means of "azulejos" (flowing). Especially worth seeing is the beautiful coffered ceiling of the square and the combination of the bricks of its structure with en flow and the various colored ceramic ornaments.

The "Plaza de España", overlooking the Guadalquivir River as the way to America, has been renovated several times to restore the ceramic and cast-iron lanterns designed by Aníbal González for the 1929 exhibition. Scenes of the film "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) by David Lean, or "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" (2002) by George Lucas were filmed on the plaza. Another important event was the 1999 IAAF World Athletics Championships, which saw the world's best athletes compete.

In the "Plaza de España" is the office of the sub-delegation of the Spanish Government.
