The best of the rivalries

The rivalry between Sevilla and Betis is considered one of the biggest rivalries in the world of football. A healthy rivalry, often taken to humorous extremes by fans with inexhaustible arguments and comebacks, as often happens in those families where fans of the two different teams are forced to live together.

Nervión is the neighbourhood home to Sevilla FC stadium: Sánchez Pizjuán; and Heliópolis is where Real Betis play, in the Benito Billamarín stadium. Game days are a party in these two neighbourhoods, an experience you shouldn’t miss. Choose your colours, the Betis’ green and white or Seville’s red and white, and enjoy a magnificent day of football.

Beyond the turf

This rivalry is such a part of the city that, coincidence or not, green and red are the colours of the April Fair, or also the traditional Flemish chairs... Good measure of the passionate fervour of this rivalry, even off the field.

The chit-chat between the Béticos and the Sevillistas give a bit a flavour to the daily life of the city.

Seville has two special colours

And even though this rivalry can be felt all year round, at every moment, when a direct confrontation is approaching, emotions raise even higher.
The show in the stands is impressive. Whether in Sánchez Pizjuán or Benito Villamarín, the fervour displayed by the fans with their colours is exciting.

There are many clubs for each team that put all their passion into the social fabric of the neighbourhoods. The clubs (peñas) are meeting places where you watch the team matches, but they can also be establishments where you can taste good homemade cuisine, and associations that promote activities, sporting or not, that benefit the environment.

To keep in mind...

  1. Both clubs have been around for over a hundred years – among the oldest in Spain.
  2. The motto among fans of Seville FC is “until death".
  3. The Betis motto is “Mucho Betis” or “Viva el Betis manque pierda".
