Espacio primera vuelta al Mundo Nao Victoria 500

On August 10th  2019, in occasion of the 500th anniversary of Magellan's expedition commencement, the new exhibition center of “The First Sailing around the World”, located in the tourist reception center of Marqués de Contadero - Seville Tourism Office - opened its doors.

Concretely speaking, it consists in a project patronized by the “Nao Victoria Foundation” and created in collaboration with the “City Council”. More specifically, it is configured, as an exhibition area, provided with audiovisual materials, scenographic installations, as well as several supplementary materials, aiming to bring the visitors 500 years back in time, at the age of the great geographical explorations and the European powers’ fight, for the oceanic routes supremacy.

The exhibition space is an important reference center to discover the magnificence of Seville, in its glory days, at the time of the great maritime expeditions, through the greatest historical feat the city has ever carried out: the “First Sailing around the World” (1519-1522).

Visitors can take a close look at the first circumnavigation of the planet, by the captains Magellan and Elcano, narrated by the voice of their main ship: the Nao Victoria, that becomes, in this way, the own storyteller of its history: from its birth, passing through its construction and expedition preparations, to arrive, then, extensively, to the immensity of the journey undertaken, as well as the events its crew went through, besides the dangers they faced and the obvious harshness of life on board.

Then, the visit culminates on board of the Nao Victoria 500: an imposing life-size replica of the legendary galleon, docked in the Guadalquivir River, which will transport the visitors, through the daily sensations and life experiences of the sailormen, who have been the front-line protagonists of this incredible adventure.

A family program, accompanied by a wide program of activities, such as guided and dramatized tours, up to even, concerts and events) will allow you to immerse yourselves deeply, in the maritime glorious history of Seville and can be consulted on its website.
