The home of ¨Triana's Hope¨

The Chapel of the Sailors is a building of Catholic worship located on Pureza Street, in the Triana neighborhood. It is home to the Brotherhood of Hope of Triana. It was built in 1759 on the same site where the chapel of the Colegio de Mareantes de Sevilla had been. After the French occupation it was secularized and converted into a warehouse, becoming also an Anglican church and theatre. In 1953 the Brotherhood of Hope, at the request of its spiritual director José Sebastián y Bandarán, decided to recover it, and work began in 1958 with a project by Aurelio Gómez Millán.
The blessing took place in 1962 and on Good Friday of that year the brotherhood completed its penitential station in its new headquarters. In 2010, expansion work began, according to an architectural project by José Ramón Rodríguez Gautier, and thanks to the purchase by the brotherhood of properties adjacent to the chapel. Two new altarpieces and modern security systems for the images are included in the complete renovation of the church. After the works, on April 29, 2010, the chapel was blessed by Juan José Asenjo Pelegrina, Archbishop of Seville.

A radiant building that shines especially on Holy Friday morning.
